New Phillies Centerfielder Ben Revere Meets Philadelphia, Makes Cheesesteak Faux Pas

Ben Revere came to Philadelphia today to meet the Phillies for the first time and got a few experiences around the City of Brotherly Love and on the high seas to show for it.

Listening to Revere on 97.5 the Fanatic  with Mike Missanelli and watching him on Comcast Sportsnet, I think fans will love Revere.  He's still pretty humble and genuinely happy for the opportunity to be in Philadelphia.   When asked where he thought he might bat in the lineup, his response was one of a team player:

"I really don't care, as long as I'm out there trying to help the team win, it doesn't matter to me."

One question people have been asking: what jersey number will he wear?  He won't get the #9 of his twitter handle @BenRevere9, but rather #2, most recently worn by Sam Perlozzo.

Revere

Still time to get one for Christmas, no?  What appears to be a Twins fan already has the Twitter handle @BenRevere2, but they'll kindly steal it from that person who tweeted once, I'm sure.

While he was here he had what he thought was his first Philly cheesesteak, and shared the picture with everyone.  He went to Chickie's and Pete's (good call), but ordered what appears to be a chicken cheesesteak with lettuce and tomato.  I wonder if he had mayo on it, too.

He apologized later:

Here's MLB.com's video of an interview with Scott Palmer in the Phillies clubhouse:

Tonight he'll be at the Eagles game, and perhaps attending the AAA Phillies cruise that their former centerfielder Shane Victorino attended annually.   Pitcher Vance Worley had been scheduled to attend, but he was traded away for Revere.

The Phillies are pretty lucky to get Revere to go, considering the cruise is just in a few weeks.  The Phillies.com ad for it still features Vance Worley.

So far I'm impressed, but of course what's on the field is most important.
