Newly-acquired Titans running back DeMarco Murray jokes he ‘took a year off’ in 2015

Whether or not you would have liked the Eagles to hang on to DeMarco Murray for another season, he just didn't want to be in Philadelphia and that was clear. Last season under Chip Kelly, Murray was seen primarily rushing east to west, while his strengths played more towards running down hill. It could've been just a bad year for him, he may not have been used correctly, but either way, the Murray situation and contract is finally gone from the Eagles for a simple swap of fourth-round picks.

DeMarco spent a lot of time during the second half of the season on the bench, not starting and getting demoted by Chip Kelly, and joked with media today that he's fresh because he pretty much took last season off. Murray is eager to turn things around and prove doubters wrong following a down year in 2015 that saw him average a career-low 3.6 yards per carry.

“I feel like I took a year off last year, so I am fresh,’’ Murray, with a smile, said on Wednesday.

“I have never been one to pay attention to the critics, but you obviously hear stuff and are around people and you hear things that are said and it definitely fires you up and motivates you,’’ Murray said in an interview with Titans Online on Wednesday after arriving in town.

“I’m 100 percent (motivated). The NFL is a place where you have to make the best of your opportunities, and every day is a challenge, every day is a competition. I look forward to competing every day and getting back on track and running the ball the way I know I can, and running plays I am intrigued by.” [Titansonline.com]

Murray, the NFL's leading rusher in 2014-15, restructured his deal with the Titans after signing a five-year, $40 million contract with the Eagles last offseason. With Tennessee, he'll earn a base of $25.5 million with the opportunity to earn as much as $33 million, according to Pro Football Talk.
