Azeez Ojulari, Giants

In a bit of a surprising move, the Eagles agreed to a deal with former Giants OLB Azeez Ojulari on Monday.

It’s not necessarily the player that’s odd, but the deal as the deal is reportedly worth $4 million for one year.

Ojulari was arguably the best pass rusher left in free agency after the actual start of free agency last Wednesday, so the Birds getting him for $4 million is quite a deal.

The odd part about that is how focused the Eagles have been with the compensatory pick formula and a $4 million value could wind up wiping out one of those picks (the sixth-rounder for Isaiah Rodgers would be the one at stake).

Ojulari, for his part, is a former second-round pick who isn’t able to cash in on free agency due to health concerns. He last played all 17 games in his rookie season back in 2021. He appeared in just 11 games each of the last two seasons.

He has some numbers, though, with 22 sacks and 107 tackles over parts of those four years. He had become more of a pass rush specialist with NY at the end of his contract there. The run defense is a potential concern, but adding a player with six sacks and 28 tackles as a rotational guy on a not so great team last year to join a rotation of Hunt, Smith, Uche and potentially a rookie should be great depth for a roster that appears likely to have lost two edge rushers.

Ojulari would mark the seventh Georgia defender on the Eagles roster, joining Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, Kelee Ringo, and Lewis Cine.

He will also re-unite with former Giants running back Saquon Barkley and be in camp with fellow former Giants defender Adoree’ Jackson.
