NFL Free Agency: Fred Johnson Joining Jaguars
The Eagles will officially need more offensive line help.
On Wednesday, the Eagles lost backup tackle Fred Johnson to the Jaguars.

Johnson’s contract isn’t yet known, but on a one-year deal it seems unlikely he’d qualify for a comp pick.
The team mush have faith in young options like Darian Kinnard to let Johnson go after they already figure to be losing their top interior option to becoming the starter. That means that if Kenyon Green doesn’t win the battle to start at guard, the Eagles top options for backup at tackle and inside will be different than they were last year.
Surely, Jeff Stoutland can coach up the room and create new quality players like he did with Johnson, but it’s surprising to see Johnson, who appeared to love the team and locker room, leave on a deal that doesn’t seem to be significant.
Johnson was picked up in November 2022 with his career all but gone, but Jeff Stoutland coached him up and he found a place in Philadelphia for the next two seasons and has now found another deal elsewhere.
Florida is Johnson’s home state and where he played college ball.
