Final: Philadelphia Phillies 8, Miami Marlins 1 ❖ Attendance: 16,745
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies (56-89) were looking to bring the momentum from last night's extra-inning victory against the Miami Marlins (68-77) to tonight's game. They did just that. Starter Aaron Nola was spectacular, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. Nola reached a new career high in strike-outs in a game: 11. He was simply masterful. Nola and Marlins starter Dan Straily were facing off for the fourth time this year, and Nola finally scored a victory against his counterpart.
The offense was fantastic as well. Nick Williams now has an 11 game hitting streak. Rhys Hoskins hit his record 17th homer in his first 33 games. This breaks the previous record set in 1930, when Wally Berger hit 17 home-runs in his first 42 games. Since August 10, Hoskins has 17 homers, while the rest of the team has 26. Tonight, everyone contributed on the offensive front, especially the first five hitters in the line-up.

The Phillies started the scoring in tonight's game. Odubel Herrera hit a lead-off a double. Freddy Galvis singled to move Herrera up to third. This brought Rhys Hoskins to the plate. He hit a sac fly to left field to score Herrera. Nick Williams followed with a single. Galvis was running on the pitch, so he ended up on third. However, Aaron Altherr and Maikel Franco both popped out in foul territory to end the inning.
The Marlins tied it up in the third inning. Phils starter Aaron Nola had retired Dee Gordon and Giancarlo Stanton on a strike out and fly out, respectively, for the first two outs. This brought Christian Yelich to the plate. He homered to right center field. Nola struck out Marcell Ozuna for the final out of the frame.
The Phils took the lead again in the bottom of the third. With one out, Hoskins walked. After a pop-out by Williams, Altherr doubled into the left field corner, allowing Hoskins to score from first. Franco followed with a single that scored Altherr to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. He moved up to second on the throw home. However, Cameron Rupp struck out to end the rally.
The Phillies added on in the fifth. Galvis led off the inning with a pop-up that dropped between Gordon and Stanton; it was ruled a double. Hoskins followed with his 17th home-run of the season to increase the Phils' lead to 5-1. Williams followed with a single. Ground-outs by Altherr and Franco moved him up to third base for Rupp. He grounded out for the third out.
The Phils didn't stop there. With one out, Nola reached on an infield single. Herrera followed with a 424-ft. home-run into the second deck of the right field seats. Galvis and Hoskins hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third for Williams. He hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Galvis from third. Altherr struck out to end the inning.
