Pat Gillick Named Phillies President; David Montgomery Becomes Chairman

A long-rumored change has been made in the Phillies organization.   David Montgomery, President of the Phillies since 1997, will not return to the role of President after a medical leave.  Pat Gillick, who as recently as last week indicated he would not be the permanent Phillies president, was named President of the club.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN tweeted:

Giles became chairman back in 1997 when he was removed from his role as president.

The reports from Howard Eskin that were met with much skepticism appear to be true.  Details about whether Gillick's role will be full CEO and president as Montgomery had been, or whether Gillick takes a role such as president of baseball operations like Theo Epstein in Chicago remains to be seen.
