Paul George showed why the Sixers were rumored to be offering a small fortune for him at the trade deadline, as his 27 points led the Pacers to a 120-111 victory over the Sixers on Monday night.
The Pacers dominated from the outset, led by George's 17 points in the first quarter. The Pacers headed into the second frame with a 35-20 lead, never trailing once.
The second quarter was more of the same, with the Pacers extending their lead to 21 points at one point. The Sixers answered back with a 11-0 run that included eight consecutive points from Richaun Holmes.
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot led all Sixers with 15 points in the first half. The only other Sixer in double figures as Holmes, who scored all 10 of his points in the second quarter.
The Pacers had four players in double figures at the break, led by George's 19 first-half points.
The Pacers carried a 64-54 lead into halftime.
The Sixers came out determined in the second half, quickly cutting the Pacers lead to five points. Unfortunately the Pacers would rebound and extend their lead back into double figures as the quarter went on.
The Sixers would trail 90-79 going into the fourth quarter.
As the final quarter played out, The Sixers struggled to keep the lead to single digits and the Pacers cruised to victory.
George led all players with 27 points, adding five assists. Four other Pacers reached double figures. Thaddeus Young had 20, Kevin Seraphin had 17, and Jeff Teague had 15. Myles Turner had the only double-double of the game, with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Cabarrot set a new career-high with 24 points in the loss. The Sixers had five other players in double figures. Dario Saric and T.J. McConnel each scored 12 points. Nik Stauskas and Alex Poythress both scored 15 points and Richaun Holmes contributed 17 of his own.
The Sixers never held a lead and turned over the ball 17 times. They close the season with a home record of 17-24.
The Sixers will play their final game of the season on Wednesday night when they visit the New York Knicks.
