The official announcement of Doug Pederson's hiring as Eagles head coach is nearing.
The former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, who was just eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday in New England, landed in Philadelphia on Monday morning.
The hiring has not been made official yet and will likely wait until Tuesday and the Eagles will also have a press conference introducing the new head coach.
Additionally, as Pederson's staff starts to take shape, one name rumored to be on Pederson's radar will not be coming to Philadelphia.
Anthony Gargano of 97.5 The Fanatic reported that the Eagles requested permission to speak with Steve Spagnuolo regarding the defensive coordinator position and were denied. A league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Spagnuolo is likely staying in New York, further confirming Gargano's report.
The Eagles have reportedly already retained running back coach Duce Staley, offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and special teams coordinator Dave Fipp. They have also retained defensive back coach Cory Undlin and hired Tim Hauck to be his assistant.
On the coordinator front, Spagnuolo was the only name linked to the Eagles defensive coordinator spot. Former San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich and former Eagles offensive coordinator and Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress are on the radar for offensive coordinator, as is current offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
