Philadelphia will look to avenge a 27-20 loss that wasn't nearly as close as the final score indicates when they host the 6-5-1 Redskins on Sunday afternoon.
The Redskins outgained Philly 493-239 the first time they met, and given Doug Pederson's closing statement this morning, the Eagles could be in for another agonizing game.
"I think the Redskins are looking better than [when] we played them," Pederson said. "They're obviously efficient on offense. They're scoring points, gaining yards. Defensively: they're explosive, they're aggressive, they put pressure on the quarterback with four and five guys. And they're relatively healthy this time of year, which for teams that are making a push, is beneficial. From our standpoint, it comes down to an execution game. We just have to get back to the fundamentals, and the details, and how we execute our game plan."
Even though running back Ryan Mathews (knee) and receiver Jordan Matthews (ankle) were full participants in Thursday's practice, a sign that both are likely to suit up in the Eagles' fourth divisional game of the season, Pederson told reporters that the No. 1 receiver and starting halfback are listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's rematch.
"[Jordan] was great on Thursday," Pederson said. "No setbacks. He made it through practice, and look forward to having another good day today."
"I'll probably lean more on the tight ends. Trey has kind of taken that role the last couple of weeks, Trey Burton, and Zach [Ertz], and Brent [Celek]. So that's probably the way we'll go."
Offensive tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee) has been ruled out of Sunday's game, while the status of wideout Dorial Green-Beckham (abdomen) will likely be decided closer to game-time.
"[Green-Beckham's] still on that path [to play]," Pederson said. "He worked yesterday a little bit. It's still sore. I wanna see him work today before I make a full decision on him. I don't want to risk having a guy [at practice] that isn't 100 percent."
