After a series of departures from the program via the NCAA transfer portal, the Penn State Nittany Lions men’s basketball program has finally made an addition.

As first reported by On3, the Nittany Lions have secured the services of former University of Cincinnati guard Josh Reed. The 6-foot-7 guard confirmed the move in an Instagram post earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

Reed averaged 4.7 points, 2.4 rebound, and 0.5 assists in just under 18-minutes a game last season with the Bearcats. The high point of Reed’s 2024-25 season came in March against Oklahoma State in their Big XII finale. Reed went 8-for-12 for 19-points in the 78-67 loss to the Cowboys.

While the stats are not flashy, Reed fills a need for Penn State: size.

The search for a player with size was a point of emphasis for head coach Mike Rhoades in the transfer portal. Reed at 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds certainly fills the description. He will have one-year eligibility remaining.
