Pettibone Makes Triple-A Debut

Phillies number 4 prospect (per Baseball America) Jonathan Pettibone made his Triple-A debut for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs this evening against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington's Triple-A team). After a shaky first inning which found him allowing a run off the rehabbing Jayson Werth's RBI double, Pettibone settled down for the most part. He left the game when Michael Spidale replaced him to pinch hit in the bottom of the 5th, with two runners in scoring position leaving him with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.  Pettibone exited the game with a no decision.

The outing was pretty mediocre but the story here has to be that Pettibone is one step closer joining Tyler Cloyd among the pitchers who are closest to the big leagues. Number 1 prospect Trevor May is having a rough season in Double-A Reading. Brody Colvin has just been promoted to Baseballtown, set to make his debut tomorrow. A rough July finds Julio Rodriguez's numbers falling to Earth after getting shelled in this year's Futures Game.
