Things may be light for the Flyers as the NHL Draft and free agency approaches, but the team did announce a pair of minor-league deals.
Colin McDonald, forward and captain of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, has signed an AHL contract for the 2018-19 season. The Phantoms also signed defenseman David Drake to an AHL deal for next season.
McDonald has been with the Flyers organization for four seasons, serving as the team's captain and playing in eight regular-season games with the Flyers. McDonald had eight goals and 25 points in 56 games last season with the Phantoms and recently broke the 100-point mark with the team in April.
McDonald has also proven to be a great leader and mentor for many of the young prospects making their way to the AHL to start their professional careers. McDonald started his tenure with the Flyers organization as the Phantoms moved to Allentown and has become a fan favorite for his gritty playing style.
Drake spent the last few seasons in the NCAA with the University of Connecticut and joined the Phantoms late last season on an Amateur Try Out. He picked up two assists in seven games.
Drake was selected in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft. This will be his first full season of professional hockey.
