Game 4 of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms series against the Toronto Marlies was much more like the first two games of the series, than the Game 3 frustration from Wednesday night.

It didn't change the result.

The Marlies scored early in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and took Game 4 by a score of 3-1, completing a sweep of the series to head to the Calder Cup Final. The Phantoms season came to an end.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period, with Toronto leading in shots, 9-4. It was a much more physical and competitive period for the Phantoms than their start on Wednesday, but they once again struggled to gain possession and generate chances.

Early in the second, the Phantoms were called for a bench minor to put Toronto on the power play. It quickly became a 5-on-3 for the Marlies when Reece Willcox was whistled for a slashing penalty. Seven seconds into the two-man advantage, the Marlies struck.

A quick tic-tac-toe passing play was capped off by Andreas Johnsson getting the goal at 2:24 of the second.

Past the midway point of the period, the Phantoms got their chance with a power play of their own. They were able to cash in as Colin McDonald found Travis Sanheim in the slot for a one-timer.

The game headed to the third period in a 1-1 tie. Shots were 18-13 Toronto after two periods.

Johnsson struck again at 3:27 of the third, cutting to the slot and slipping a shot through the five-hole of Alex Lyon.

From there, Toronto continued to put on a defensive clinic and hemmed the Phantoms into their own zone for much of the period.

With the goalie pulled in the final minute, Trevor Moore scored into the empty net to seal the Phantoms fate.

Lyon made 26 saves in the loss. Garret Sparks made 19 saves in the victory.

For the Phantoms, a very successful season comes to a close. They won the Atlantic Division and made it through two rounds of the players before running into a Toronto Marlies team that was a level above the rest of the competition, loaded with talent and firing on all cylinders.

Several of these players will be back in Lehigh Valley next season. A number of them will get consideration for the Flyers roster as well.

With the Phantoms season now complete as well, it's onto the offseason for the Flyers organization officially, as they turn the focus to the NHL Draft, free agency and more over the next month.
