We won't have to spend another preseason debating whether Brian Baldinger is correctly pronouncing Allen Barbre's name.
The team announced Wednesday that they have released the 33-year-old:

Executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman praised Barbre in the news release, even suggesting that the team isn't opposed to having him return if that opportunity presents itself:
"Allen Barbre is a pro’s pro,” said Howie Roseman. "Not only did he help the team with his solid play as a starter at left guard, but his ability to step up and play multiple positions helped us battle through some difficult situations. We had a conversation yesterday and agreed it made sense to allow him to pursue some other opportunities, but the door is open for him to return here as well."
The release comes just hours after offensive coordinator Frank Reich publicly said that second-year pro Isaac Seumalo, not Barbre, was entering Training Camp as the team's starting left guard. Head coach Doug Pederson had declined to discuss the team's depth chart when he addressed the media earlier this week, but perhaps that was because he was aware that the front-office was working out Barbre's future with the team.
As for the idea of Barbre eventually returning, don't count on it. Even with a history of injuries and his advanced age, Barbre can play all over the line and there's a fairly good chance that a team will find a way for him to start. Even if he doesn't catch on as a starter somewhere, he would probably prefer to take a similar role to what he would have had with the Eagles elsewhere at this point.
As Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer noted after the release, moving on from Barbre will save the Eagles $2.1 million against the cap in 2017. Don't be surprised if that money is used to add more depth at cornerback.
