Philadelphia falters down the stretch, lose in Toronto

The Fyers went into the third period with a 3-2 lead on goals by Wayne Simmonds and Travis Konecny. Toronto responded with a four goal outburst over the fianl 20 minutes to hand Philadelphia a 6-3 loss on Friday night at the Air Canda Centre.

Nazem Kadri got the scoring started just 2:53 into the game. Kadri was able to split the defense and went in alone to put Toronto up 1-0 early. It was his seventh goal of the early season.

The Flyers tied it not long after that. Wayne Simmonds scored just a minute later. Simmonds scored on the power play at 3:58 of the period. Claude Giroux and Shayne Gostisbehere picked up the assist. It was his team leading seventh goal of the year.

Travis Konecny put the Flyers ahead just 30 seconds later. Konecny turned a broken play into a partial breakaway goal to mkae it 2-1 Philadelphia. The young rookie took a bouncing puck at the blue line and beat Frederick Andersen. Michael Del Zotto and Radko Gudas picked up the helpers.

Morgan Reilly would tie the game late in the first period with his first of the season. Reilly scored with a two man advantage at 19:08. James van Riemsdyk and Mitchell Marner picked up the assists.

Toronto would have 35 seconds of carry over power play time to start the second but were unable to score.

The Maple Leafs would get their fourth power play of the night at 2:00 on the dot of the second period. It was the Flyers who took advantage however.

Simmonds scored his second of the game and eigth of season at 2:53. It was the first short handed goal of his career. Sean Couturier picked up the lone assist.

Both teams would exchange chances the rest of period but neither found the back of the net and the teams went to the locker room with Philadelphia holding a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Martin Marincin tied the game at 3-3 at 4:03 of the third. Marincin blasted his first of the season past Steve Mason from the point. Reilly and Kadri picked up the assists. 

Zach Hyman would put Toronto up 4-3 just four minutes later. Hyman was able to slam home a rebound after a mad scramble in front of the Flyers net. It was his first of the season.

Leo Komarov would extend the lead with a shorthanded goal at 11:32. Komarov intercepted a pass at the blue line and went in alone for his first of the season. He was the fourth Maple Leafs player to net his first goal of the season in the game.

Mitchell Marner made it 6-3 on the power play at 16:16 on the power play. It was Marner's fifth of the year.

That would end the scoring and essentially end the game as Toronto skated to a 6-3 victory. 

The Flyers are back in action tomorrow when they host the Minnesota Wild.
