Flyers Postgame Report: Flyers Streak Hits 5 in Loss to Blackhawks

For one of the two teams in the bottom five of the league standings, a losing streak was going to end on Sunday. It was the team with the longer losing streak, reaching seven games after Saturday.

The Chicago Blackhawks avenged the seven-game streak with a seven-goal performance, handing the Flyers a fifth straight loss, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon.


The Flyers got on the board just 3:59 into the first. A shot by Jamie Drysdale was deflected in front and beat Spencer Knight to make it 1-0 on his sixth goal of the season.

The Blackhawks tied the game up at 7:14. Off a turnover, Nick Foligno set up Patrick Maroon on the backdoor for his fifth goal of the season to make it 1-1.

Just 47 seconds later, Joe Veleno scored his sixth goal of the season and first as a Blackhawk to make it a 2-1 game at 8:01. Twelve seconds after that, the Flyers tied the game back up at Travis Sanheim‘s shot leaked through Knight and across the line for his seventh goal of the season.

The Flyers took the lead again as Bobby Brink found a loose puck behind Knight and scored his 11th goal of the season to make it a 3-2 game at 11:59.

With 1:48 remaining in the period, the Blackhawks got the game tied again as Connor Bedard sniped his 20th of the season off a face-off to make it 3-3.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 11-9 Flyers.

It took just 2:37 for the Blackhawks to get the lead back, as Tyler Bertuzzi finished off a nice backhand for his 19th goal of the season to make it 4-3.

Ryan Donato added a power-play goal on a tip-in at 6:43 to extend the lead to two. Travis Konecny scored on a deflection at 10:14 to cut the lead back to one, but Donato’s second power-play goal of the period and 25th of the season made it 6-4 at 13:27.

Through two periods, shots were 25-21 Chicago.

Chicago added to the lead at 2:13 of the third. Lukas Reichel banked in a shot off of Emil Andrae in front to make it 7-4 with his seventh goal of the season.

Knight made 24 saves on 28 shots in the win. Ivan Fedotov made 22 saves on 29 shots in the loss.

Konecny and Drysdale each had a goal and an assist. Matvei Michkov had two assists to reach the 50-point mark. Seven Blackhawks players finished with multi-point games.

The Flyers close out a five-game road trip on Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m.
