Dec 12, 2024; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen (55) sprays center Scott Laughton (21) after he scored a hat-trick goal against the Detroit Red Wings in the third period at Wells Fargo Center.

Scott Laughton had nine of his 98 goals in his NHL career against the Detroit Red Wings. By the end of Thursday night, 13 of his 102 career goals were against Detroit.

Laughton carried the Flyers to another win with a four-goal game, as Aleksei Kolosov turned aside 25 shots in a 4-1 win at Wells Fargo Center.

The first period was mostly whistle-free and featured sustained pressure in spurts. Through 20 minutes, shots were 11-7 Flyers.

The game started to open up in the second and the chances started coming for both teams. The Flyers finally broke the ice at 13:22 of the second. Laughton got a breakaway and fired a slap shot to make it 1-0 with his fourth goal of the season.

Through two periods, shots were 30-14 Flyers.

The Flyers were shorthanded right off the opening face-off of the third. Instead of the Detroit power play evening things up, the Flyers added to the lead. Laughton finished off a shorthanded rush, burying the feed from Travis Konecny for his second goal of the game and the 100th of his career to make it 2-0.

With 3:53 to play, Ben Chiarot finally got the Red Wings on the board. A shot from the high slot was deflected by a Flyer out high and beat Kolosov to make it 2-1.

With 1:07 remaining, Laughton iced the game with the empty-netter to complete the hat trick. With 13 seconds remaining, Laughton scored again into the empty net for his fourth of the game and seventh of the season.

Kolosov made 25 saves on 26 shots in the win. Cam Talbot made 32 saves on 34 shots in the loss.

In addition to Laughton’s four goals, Konecny had two assists.

The Flyers are back on the ice on Saturday afternoon to take on the Minnesota Wild at 2 p.m.
