Flyers vs. Islanders Preview: The End is Near

The end is in sight for the Flyers on the 2024-25 season. They have four games remaining over six days to bring the season to a close.
First up on this busy week to the finish is the New York Islanders, a team that will also be eliminated in the coming days as the Eastern Conference playoff picture takes shape. The Islanders come into Philadelphia off a 9-2 loss to the Rangers, just one day after the Flyers completed an 8-5 win over the Rangers.
Game time is 12:30 p.m.
Tyson Foerster got his first career hat trick on Wednesday against the Rangers, continuing his recent hot streak. Foerster has six goals in the last five games. He also has nine points in the last eight games after picking up just two points over the previous 11 games.
Simon Holmstrom is also on a hot streak for the Islanders. Holmstrom has points in four straight games, including a four-point game against Nashville on Tuesday. Holmstrom scored in the Islanders last game against the Flyers on Jan. 30.
Sam Ersson is expected to get the start for the Flyers. Ersson made 23 saves on 26 shots in a loss to the Canadiens last Saturday. Ersson picked up the win against the Islanders on Jan. 16, making 26 saves on 29 shots.
Marcus Hogberg is expected to get the start for the Islanders. Hogberg allowed eight goals on 30 shots to the Rangers on Thursday before exiting the game. Hogberg’s last win came on Jan. 18 against San Jose. He has made five starts since then, as well as two relief appearances.
