Flyers Notes: All About the Prospects

As the Flyers season approaches an end, there is plenty going on with prospects in the system. On Tuesday, ahead of their home finale, the Flyers announced the signings of two draft picks just finished with their college careers.
Devin Kaplan, a 2022 third-round pick, was signed to a three-year entry-level deal and will report to the Flyers for the remainder of the season. He’s expected to make his NHL debut on Thursday in the team’s season finale.
Kaplan just completed his career at Boston University. The 6’3”, 205-pound forward scored 10 goals and 18 points in 38 games in his junior season, which ended with a loss in the National Championship game. In his three seasons at Boston University, Kaplan scored 25 goals and 64 points in 115 games.
The Flyers also signed 2022 fifth-round pick Alex Bump to a three-year entry-level deal that will begin in the 2025-26 season. Bump will report to the Phantoms on an amateur try-out for the remainder of the season.
Bump just completed his sophomore season at Western Michigan, scoring 23 goals and 47 points in 42 games. His college career ends with a win in the National Championship game, helping Western Michigan to the first national championship in program history. Bump also had 14 goals and 36 points in 38 games as a freshman.
Barkey on a Heater
In the OHL Playoffs, a Flyers prospect is lighting up the scoreboard on a nightly basis. Denver Barkey, the Flyers’ third-round pick in 2023, has nine goals and 19 points in seven playoff games for the London Knights.
Barkey had a slow start to his fourth season in London. The Knights’ captain was limited to 50 games this season after battling an illness to start the season. He finished with 25 goals and 82 points, down 10 goals and 20 points from his season totals in 2023-24.
Barkey’s teammate and fellow Flyers prospect, Oliver Bonk, has one goal and five points in seven games in the OHL Playoffs. Bonk is tied with Barkey with a plus-16 rating, leading the OHL in the playoffs. The London Knights have won all six playoff games so far, holding a 2-0 series lead in the second round on the Erie Otters.
Bjarnason Reports to Phantoms
Another Flyers prospect is joining the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in time for the playoffs. Carson Bjarnason, the team’s 2023 second-round pick, was at the Flyers facility earlier in the week and assigned to the Phantoms on Tuesday.
Bjarnason just completed his fourth season for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL. He had a 22-15-3 record with a 2.93 GAA and .913 save percentage in 40 games in the regular season. He also had an 0-3-0 record with a 4.19 GAA and .870 save percentage in three games in the playoffs.
