Flyers Blanked for 2nd Straight Game, Fall to Lightning

In late January and into early February, the Flyers were shut out in three straight games. They are closing in on that mark again after Monday night’s result.
This was hardly the drubbing that the Flyers took on Saturday against Carolina, but the Flyers were bested by the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 2-0 defeat.
The Lightning got the lone goal of the first period at 4-on-4 with 1:29 remaining. Travis Konecny mishandled a puck and Nikita Kucherov stripped it, going the other way on a breakaway to score his 29th goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 11-9 Tampa Bay.
Shots were limited in the second, the Flyers holding a 5-4 lead for the period. They had a four-minute power play go by the wayside as Tampa Bay maintained the one-goal lead.
Through two periods, shots were 15-14 Tampa Bay.
The one-goal margin remained until a high-sticking double-minor was called on Sean Couturier with 1:47 remaining. Jake Guentzel scored a power-play goal into an empty net with 1:30 to play to ice the game.
Andrei Vasilevskiy took care of all 21 shots he faced for the shutout win. Ivan Fedotov made 21 saves on 22 shots in the loss.
Kucherov had two points for the Lightning.
The Flyers continue their road trip on Thursday night, taking on the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m.
