Flyers Postgame Report: Flyers Drop 6th Straight, Routed by Leafs

On Sunday, the Flyers allowed seven goals to the Chicago Blackhawks on the way to a fourth straight loss on the road trip. On Tuesday, as they closed out the five-game trip, they had allowed six goals by the end of the second period.

A winless road trip came complete against the Toronto Maple Leafs, who rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Flyers, who have lost six straight games and 11 of their last 12.


The Flyers got on the board first at 7:59. Ryan Poehling fired a quick shot from the high slot that beat Anthony Stolarz to make it 1-0 on his eighth goal of the season.

From there, the duo of John Tavares and William Nylander took over. Tavares evened the score at one at 10:37 on a setup from Nylander. Nylander scored on the power play before the period was over at 15:11 to make it 2-1 Toronto.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 10-3 Toronto.

Nylander set up Bobby McMann for his 20th goal of the season at 1:45 of the second to make it 3-1. Tavares added his second of the game and 32nd of the season at 7:49 to make it 4-1. Nylander’s second of the game and 40th of the season made it 5-1 at 11:55.

At 15:08, David Kampf capped a four-goal second period with his fifth goal of the season to make it a 6-1 game.

The Flyers did get back on the board before the period ended. Sean Couturier deflected a shot by Jamie Drysdale for his 12th goal of the season with 1:43 remaining.

Through two periods, shots were 23-11 Toronto.

The lone goal of the third period went to Max Domi, who scored on a breakaway at 11:32 to cap the scoring with his seventh goal of the season.

Stolarz made 17 saves on 19 shots in the win. Sam Ersson made 23 saves on 30 shots in the loss.

Nylander and Tavares each had four-point games with two goals and two assists. McMann and Matthew Knies each had two points.

The Flyers return home on Thursday night to take on the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m.
