Returning home after going 3-7 during their 11-day, 10-game road trip, the Philadelphia Phillies (32-28) will face 10-year veteran Jhoulys Chacín and the Milwaukee Brewers (37-25) Friday evening to kick off a six-game homestand at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez will also get the starting nod.
Nick Pivetta fell to 4-5 on Thursday, as the Phillies likewise fell 4-3 to the Chicago Cubs in the series finale matinee at Wrigley Field. Down 1-0 heading to the fifth, Carlos Santana extended his hitting streak to five games with a RBI single to right. The Cubs added three runs in the bottom half. The Phillies rally the next half-inning brought them within one run — with a two RBI double by rookie shortstop Scott Kingery — but it ultimately came up short. Phillies relievers Luis Garcia, Edubray Ramos and Adam Morgan each tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Andrew Knapp committed two errors, both of which were catchers interference calls. The Phillies walked nine times, including seven times against opposing starter Tyler Chatwood.
Tyler Chatwood is the 1st starting pitcher since Chan Ho Park in 2000 to walk at least 7 Phillies and not allow multiple runs.

The Phillies split their six meetings with the Brewers last season, while scoring fewer than five runs only once and allowing more than three runs just twice. The Brewers have the best winning percentage in the National League (NL) this season (.597). The Phillies trail Milwaukee by four games, with a NL sixth-best winning percentage, .533.

Kapler on Phillies' 3-7 road trip: This was not our best road trip, obviously. We proved that we can go toe to toe with the best teams in the National League. That felt like a playoff atmosphere out there … we're prepared to battle with the best in the NL.
