Phillies No. 6 Prospect De Los Santos to Start Spring Home Opener Against Pirates

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Fresh off their 3-2 Grapefruit League opener victory — highlighted by starting third baseman hopeful Maikel Franco's solo home run — the Philadelphia Phillies (1-0) will host the Pittsburgh Pirates (0-0) Saturday afternoon.

Phillies No. 6-ranked prospect RHP Enyel De Los Santos will oppose Pirates southpaw Steven Brault, as 2019 spring training action kicks off at Spectrum Field in Clearwater. The Pirates will start non-roster invitee Melky Cabrera as their designated hitter, batting third; the 14-plus-year veteran was on the New York Yankees' 2009 World Series championship team and hit .154/.154/.154 over 13 plate appearances that series against Phillies pitching.

Top offseason acquisitions SS Jean Segura, OF Andrew McCutchen and C J.T. Realmuto will all make their Phillies debuts in the televised contest.
