Phillies, Pivetta Embark on 11-Game Road Trip Against Pirates

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

Trailing their division by just one game, the Philadelphia Phillies (47-37) will begin an 11-game, 10-day road trip — leading up to the All-Star break — opposite RHP Trevor Williams and the Pittsburgh Pirates (40-46) Friday evening at PNC Park. Phillies RHP Nick Pivetta will oppose Williams and the Pirates for the second time in 2018, the first being a 3-2, 11-inning walk-off win to secure the four-game series sweep on April 22.

In an Independence Day matinee on Wednesday, the Phillies picked up their 30th home win of the season with a 4-1 victory over the MLB-worst Baltimore Orioles. Only the New York Yankees (33) have more home wins this season. Aaron Nola earned his 11th win — allowing just one run in seven innings with nine strikeouts — while Victor Arano secured his first career save, tossing two scoreless frames with three strikeouts in relief. Nick Williams hit his 10th home run of the season, giving the Phillies five players with 10 or more home runs before the All-Star break since 2008.
