Final: Philadelphia Phillies 3, Miami Marlins 2
Philadelphia, PA — If Jeremy Hellickson could pitch against the Miami Marlins every outing, he may be a perennial All-Star. After posting a 2.01 ERA against the Marlins in six starts in 2016, the Philadelphia Phillies right-hander was impressive again in Thursday afternoon's win over the Fish.
The Phillies bullpen, despite some hiccups, was able to hold on after Hellickson departed the game to give the Phillies their sixth consecutive win.

The Phillies were able to get off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when a throwing error from Marlins' second baseman Dee Gordon allowed Daniel Nava, who opened the inning with a walk, to score on an Odubel Herrera groundout.
Herrera added a second RBI in the third inning, when he smoked a ball to second base. This time, Gordon was able to handle the ball hit to him, as he threw Herrera out, but Freddy Galvis was able to score in the process.
Jeremy Hellickson gave up his lone run in the sixth inning when Giancarlo Stanton beat a Daniel Nava throw to the plate (more on this in the pitching section) on a J.T. Realmuto single to left field.
The Phillies added their third run of the game, which proved to be important, in the seventh inning. Brock Stassi recorded his first big league triple after roping a ball to the right field corner that allowed Michael Saunders to score on an incredible slide.

The Marlins scored the final run of the game in the seventh, when Christian Yelich singled up the middle to plate Adeiny Hechavarria. Fortunately, the Phillies were able to keep the Marlins from tying the game, despite the Marlins starting the seventh inning with runners on first and third and just one out.

Hellickson, who entered the game with a 1.80 ERA, wasn't perfect Thursday, but he did a good job of limiting damage. Hellickson worked out of numerous jams, including a first-and-third with no one out in the fourth inning, without allowing the Marlins to have a big inning.
The Marlins did get one run off of the 30-year-old in sixth when J.T. Realmuto, who has been scorching hot to open the season, singled in Giancarlo Stanton. Daniel Nava's throw from left field was on-target, but late because he struggled to get the ball out of his glove quickly.
Overall, Hellickson did about as good of a job of scattering seven hits as one can do, and stayed hot to open the season.
Volquez, on the other hand, was lucky to only give up three runs. Of the 105 pitches that he threw, just 57 were strikes and Michael Saunders came about five feet from hitting a two-run home run in the home half of the fourth, an inning in which the Phillies scored just one run despite squaring up four balls.
