The Philadelphia Phillies are in the thick of the postseason race, trailing the division by just one game, while leading the second National League Wild Card spot by one game with the All-Star break near.
This past Sunday, the club completed a 42-game stretch of playing .500 baseball (21-21) against 10 different teams, five of which currently qualify for a postseason spot if the season were to end today. The Phillies won 13 of their final 21 games in the stretch, as well as six of their last 10 opposite the Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees.
At 47-37, the club is 10 games over .500 for the first time since 2011, when they won a franchise-record 102 games, before falling to the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series.
"Obviously the winning is fun, but it seems like we're finding kind of new ways and different ways to win each night. I think, really, that's a sign of a good team," Phillies 1B/LF Rhys Hoskins said Thursday on MLB Network Radio. "Obviously, we're pretty young, but we're talented. And we're confident in the talent that this group has."
Hoskins contributed significantly toward the Phillies' success during their tough, 42-game stretch. Since returning from the disabled list on June 9, Hoskins has slashed .281/.365/.618 with six doubles, eight home runs, 25 RBI and 12 walks spanning 23 games and 104 plate appearances.
"Last month was fun. We definitely played some good pretty teams," Hoskins said. "I think we kind of established that we belong in the same conversation as those teams."
The Phillies will now embark on an 11-game, 10-day road trip leading up to the All-Star break starting Friday, opposite the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
