Phillies, Aaron Harang look to spoil Mets Citi Field home opener

The Philadelphia Phillies (3-3) will look to spoil the home opener of their rival New York Mets (3-3) in a Monday afternoon matinee at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.

So far in the early going the Mets have faced the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves.  The Mets bested the Nationals in their series two games to one.   Against the Braves the Mets lost the first two games of the series before taking Sunday afternoon's game in Atlanta.j  Thus, the Mets enter today with the same records as the Phillies.

The Phillies will play their Opening Day lineup against the right-handed deGrom.  Despite success in the number two part of the lineup, shortstop Freddy Galvis moves down to the eighth spot in the order.  Odubel Herrera returns to center field and the second spot in the batting order behind left fielder Ben Revere, after a few days of mixed lineups.

The Mets will play their full starting lineup against the Phillies.  The lineup has a new look in 2015 with the addition of Michael Cuddyer to play right field.  With the development of center fielder Juan Lagares and the health of David Wright, the Mets lineup is one that must be taken seriously in 2015.  The young starting rotation behind veteran Bartolo Colon gives this Mets team a good amount of promise.

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (3-3)  New York Mets(3-3)
RHP Aaron Harang RHP Jacob deGrom

Harang earned the first Phillies win with 6 1/3 innings against the Boston Red Sox on the second game of the year.  Harang looked brilliant as he breezed through his first two innings of work, but after allowing two baserunners with one out in the seventh inning, Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg took Harang out of the game.

Jacob deGrom is the reigning National League Rookie of the Year.  Despite pitching well, deGrom took the loss against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, going six innings and giving up two earned runs.  The youngster from Florida went 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA last season with the Mets in 22 starts to help land him him the rookie honors.
