Phillies activate Vince Velasquez, option Elvis Araujo

Following the conclusion of Sunday's 8-7 loss to the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies made a roster to move to prepare for their series in Arizona. Starting pitcher Vince Velasquez has been activated and left-hander Elvis Araujo was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Prior to getting hurt, Velasquez was 5-2 with a 3.65 ERA, but had allowed 20 earned runs in his last 30 1/3 innings of work. He made one rehab start on Wednesday with Double-A Reading, pitching five innings of one-run ball. He struck out three and walked one.

With Elvis Araujo being sent to Triple-A, that means Adam Morgan will remain on the big league roster in the bullpen. In 27 games this season for the Phillies, Araujo is 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA. Morgan will get a chance to make an impact as a relief arm after scuffling in the starting rotation, posting a 6.55 ERA in 11 starts.

The Phillies and the Diamondbacks begin their series on Monday at 9:40pm.
