The Phillies traded starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sean O'Sullivan came up for a start the day of the deal.  However, the Phillies were apparently looking elsewhere for starting rotation help.  Today, the Phillies got it.

The Phillies' own Twitter account reported:

Williams is 2-6 with a 6.71 ERA so far in 2014.   Presumably, Williams will start Tuesday.

The Phillies will be Williams' third team this season.   After starting out with the Houston Astros, Williams was designated for assignment back on June 30, and subsequently released.  The Rangers then picked him up on July 11.  Less than a month after joining the Rangers, Williams was designated for assignment once again.  While on waivers, the Phillies grabbed him.

Williams has nine years' major league experience with the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim before signing with the Astros this past offseason.  Lifetime Williams is 44-52 with a 4.51 ERA.
