With Friday being the deadline to exchange salary arbitration figures, the Philadelphia Phillies successfully avoided the hearing process with all but one of their nine eligible players — Aaron Nola.
The Phillies' ace and first-time All-Star from the 2018 season — who finished third in the Cy Young Award and 13th in the Most Valuable Player awards races — did not agree to a contract, and thus is "expected to head to an arbitration hearing," according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The Phillies will exchange figures with Nola, who remains "arbitration-eligible and unsigned," NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury notes.
It's unclear, according to a source, whether the #Phillies and Aaron Nola will continue to talk about a 2019 contract before the arbitration hearing next month.

Players whom the Phillies avoided arbitration with include: Aaron Altherr ($1.35 million), José Álvarez ($1.925 million), Jerad Eickhoff ($975,000), Maikel Franco ($5.2 million), César Hernández ($7.75 million), Adam Morgan ($1.1 million), Hector Néris ($1.8 million), and Vince Velasquez ($2.249 million).
