The Philadelphia Phillies took care of some housekeeping on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration with veteran catcher Cameron Rupp. The 29-year-old backstop inked a one-year contract worth just just over $2 million.

Rupp has been at the center of the Phillies catching picture over the last chunk of years, but with Jorge Alfaro and Andrew Knapp more than capable to handle the team catching duties, Rupp may be the odd man out in 2018. Both him and Knapp does have minor league options, so it seems like the two will compete for the backup spot behind Alfaro, who is out of minor league options.
Last season for the Phillies, Rupp slashed an .219/.299/.716 with 14 homers and 34 RBIs.
The Phillies still have time to avoid arbitration cases with Cesar Hernandez, Maikel Franco and Luis Garcia before Friday's deadline.
