Phillies blanked for second consecutive night, 10th time of season

Final: Dodgers 6, Phillies 0

WP: Zack Greinke (8-2, 1.39 ERA) LP: Severino Gonzalez (3-3, 7.92 ERA)

Los Angeles, CA - In a game which took just two hours and 14 minutes to play before a crowd of 41,290 at the historic venue of Dodger Stadium, the Philadelphia Phillies (29-59) were shutout for the second consecutive night and 10th time overall this season.

Concurrently, the Los Angeles Dodgers (49-38) earned their 13th shutout victory, which ties the San Francisco Giants for most in major league baseball. The Giants are the Phillies' next opponent before heading into the Mid-Summer Classic. The Dodgers' club record for shutouts prior to the All-Star break is 14, which was set in 1963, 1970, 1974 and 1980.

Greinke, who leads major league baseball in ERA (1.39), extended his career-high scoreless streak to 35.2 innings, after throwing eight shutout innings Thursday night.

The Phillies had just two hits: singles by first baseman Ryan Howard in the top of the second, and center fielder fielder Ben Revere in the top of the ninth.

While Revere's hitting streak was extended to eight games, which dates back to June 29, shortstop Freddy Galvis' 10-game and outfielder Odubel Herrera's eight-game streak were ended by Greinke and company. Herrera did not start Thursday night, but he made a pinch-hit appearance in the top of the ninth where he grounded out to short.

The Los Angeles Dodgers put up two runs each in the bottom of the fourth, sixth and eighth innings.

Right fielder Yasiel Puig was the big contributor, bringing home four of these six runs. He hit a two-run double in the fourth off of Phillies' starter Severino Gonzalez, who had allowed just one hit up to that point, and a two-run home run off of reliever Hector Neris in the eighth. These were the first runs allowed by Neris in his career, who was making his fifth career relief appearance on the mound.

The Dodgers' other two runs scored, in the bottom of the sixth, came from a two-run, 363-foot blast off the bat of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. This was the five-time All-Star's 17th home run of the season, who ranks seventh in the National League.

Suffering their 15th road series loss out of 17 overall this season, the Phillies have been outscored 242-144 away from Citizens Bank Park, which is the worst run differential in baseball. Additionally, the Phillies have fallen 30 games under .500, prior to the break, for the first time since 1997.
