Newly-acquired, two-time All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos will make his Philadelphia Phillies debut in Tuesday evening's series finale against the Major League Baseball-best Boston Red Sox Wednesday evening at Citizens Bank Park. Ramos will start behind home plate, batting sixth.
The Phillies' activation of Ramos on Wednesday means the optioning of switch-hitting catcher Andrew Knapp to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury.
Ramos, 31, has been shelved since and prior to joining the Phillies via trade on July 31 due to a left hamstring strain. The nine-year veteran produced a .297/.346/.488 slash — with 14 home runs and 53 RBI — in 78 games with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this season, prior to his injury.
First baseman Justin Bour will also start in place of Carlos Santana, batting second. Bour has gone 1-1 with a single and walk in two pinch-hit appearances thus far with the Phillies. Bour and Ramos have 24 combined career plate appearances against Wednesday's Red Sox starter, RHP Nathan Eovaldi. The Phillies hope the addition of both sluggers into the lineup will generate some much-needed offense.
