Aaron Nola worked out of jams in the first and second and the Phillies took advantage. In the first, Odubel Herrera led things off with a single and advanced to third on a pickoff error by Wily Peralta. He scored on an RBI groundout by Freddy Galvis.

In the third, the Phillies padded the lead as Maikel Franco smoked a line drive into the seats in left field for a solo home run. It was his 10th home run of the season.

The Phillies added another run in the fourth. With two outs, Cesar Hernandez dropped a hit in front of Domingo Santana, who misplayed the bounce as the ball went past him to the wall. Cody Asche scored from second on the hit and Hernandez reached third with an RBI triple.

In the fifth inning, the Phillies erupted for five runs. With two on and one out, Tommy Joseph hit a line drive to right that left the ballpark for a three-run home run but was ruled fan interference upon review. That made it an RBI double that scored Herrera and moved Franco to third. After a pitching change for Milwaukee, Paredes followed with a definitive three-run home run and Rupp went back-to-back with Paredes to make it an 8-0 game.

The back-to-back home runs were the first for the Phillies since August 22, 2015 and just the second time all season the Phillies had hit three home runs in a game. The Phillies also hit three on April 7 in a 10-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The five-run fifth inning was also the first inning this season where the Phillies scored more than three runs.

The Phillies also matched their season high of 13 hits for the third time this season.

The Brewers scored one run in the eighth on a two-out, RBI single by Ramon Flores.
