It's far from official; in fact, maybe Michael Schwimer purposely was trying to beat the media and a press release:
We figured that Jake Diekman was headed to Philly. What about the rest?
This would mean beyond Joe Savery headed to AAA two more players have to go. The Hector Luna and Raul Valdez moves are somewhat surprising; neither is on the 40 man roster and the Phillies would have to make room for them.
Some possibilities:
- Laynce Nix could be injured and headed to the DL which would explain Luna. Or, the Phillies could opt to option Erik Kratz to the minors.
- Carlos Ruiz (bruised thumb) could be headed to the DL; Kratz could stay in that case.
- Ty Wigginton (strained calf) could be headed to the DL; Luna would give the Phillies an additional infielder to replace him.
- Brian Sanches could be flat out cut; they would have to give him his release to get him off of the 40 man roster.
The Phillies could move Ryan Howard and/or Chase Utley to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40 man, which would simply delay cutting somebody.
Todd Zolecki speculates the spots were Savery-Kratz-Sanches.
Luna was hitting .274 with one home run and 12 RBI.
Valdez is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA.
Diekman is 1-0 with a 0.59 ERA.
