Eleven days after acquiring two-time All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos, the Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday that the Valencia, Venezuela, native will begin a rehab assignment Friday with the High-A Clearwater Threshers, according to philly.com's Scott Lauber.
Ramos, 31, has not played since July 14 due to a left hamstring strain, and is reportedly "100 percent" confident he will join the Phillies "sometime in August," philly.com's Matt Breen notes. Upon joining the Phillies, he is expected to become the everyday catcher, with Jorge Alfaro to serve in the backup role.
Through nine seasons and 727 games with the Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins, Ramos is slashing .271/.315/.438 with 113 doubles, 108 home runs and 409 RBI. Ramos produced a .297/.346/.488 slash line in 78 games with the Rays prior to his injury in 2018.
