This Sunday, Nov. 4, the name of Philadelphia Phillies chairman David Montgomery will forever be honored, as his Roxborough hometown ball field — Daisy Field in Wissshickon Park (5000 Hermit Lane, Philadelphia, PA) — will be renamed to David Montgomery Field.
The Philadelphia Parks & Recreation is hosting the field dedication ceremony, in partnership with the Phillies and Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. The City of Philadelphia will honor Montgomery's "passion for the city and baseball" and his status as an "icon within the organization," being "one of the most recognizable philanthropic sports executives in the city," according to the Roxborough-Manayunk Patch.

Montgomery, 72, began his career with the Phillies in the inaugural year of Veterans Stadium, 1971. He worked in the team's sales office selling season and group tickets, before becoming co-owner — through a $30 million purchase deal — president, and now chairman.
"I feel very blessed," Montgomery told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. "I just hope and pray that others get the opportunity that I did. But as it has happened to me so many times in my life, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, with parents that cared."
Roxborough's Daisy Field will be renamed to David Montgomery Field following a special dedication ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 (Google Maps).
The dedication will take place 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The city initially planned to hold the event on Sept. 22, 2017, and a later date the following spring, but was forced to postpone both events, likely due to Montgomery's health. The Phillies chairman underwent surgery in May 2014 to remove cancer from his right jaw bone, and has since lessened his role within the organization. During the fourth game of the World Series on Saturday, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred "stood up to cancer" with Montgomery's name on one of his two placards.
"David Montgomery is one of Philadelphia's finest corporate citizens. It is very fitting that we rename the field where he played baseball as a kid," Jones Jr. told SportsTalkPhilly.com. "His charitable giving has been a positive influence of past and present Phillies. He deserves this honor."
The 2019 season will mark Montgomery's 49th year of service to the Phillies organization.
