Phillies president emeritus David Montgomery stepped down from the president's role last season after serving in that capacity since 1997, after battling some health issues. Now in his new role as Phillies chairman and his team presidency complete, Montgomery will be honored by the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association. The award will be for Montgomery's work with Phillies Charities.
Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reported the news:
Phillies chairman David Montgomery has been an important figure in Philadelphia for decades, and the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association is honoring him Feb. 1 at its 112th annual dinner in Cherry Hill, N.J., where he will be presented the Ed Snider Lifetime Distinguished Humanitarian Award.
The PSWA called Montgomery a "catalyst behind Phillies Charities, which … last year [raised] about $2 million in grants awarded to dozens of deserving charitable organizations."
Montgomery has long been held as one of the game's good guys.
Montgomery oversaw one Phillies World Series victory, one National League Pennant, and three other division titles in his time as Phillies president. Read Zolecki's full news piece here.
