PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed RHP Dan Otero off waivers from the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Otero, 30, has allowed 205 hits, 77 runs (71 earned), 11 home runs and 29 walks over 184 2/3 career innings in relief.
Hardball Talk's Aaron Gleeman writes:
Otero lacks impressive raw stuff, but he’s an extreme strike-thrower with just 1.4 walks per nine innings for his career and at age 31 could stick with the Phillies as an inexpensive bullpen piece.
