PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed 27-year-old RHP Phil Klein off waivers from the Texas Rangers and have optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The move comes 10 days after Klein was designated for assignment by the Rangers to make room on their 40-man roster for catcher Robinson Chirinos, activated from the 60-day disabled list.
In 36 career Major League appearances — two being starts — Klein is 2-3 with a 4.80 ERA, 1.422 WHIP ratio and 47 strikeouts over 45 innings. Combined in his professional career, the Columbus, Ohio, native is 20-7 with a 2.60 ERA and 370 strikeouts spanning 322 innings.
