The Phillies finally decided to cut Delmon Young this afternoon as they designated the outfielder for assignment. Young will need to either be released, traded or sent to the minors within the next 10 days or the Phillies will put him back on the 40-man roster.
Young is hitting .261 (71-for-291) with 8 HR and 31 RBI in 80 games with the Phillies and it's becoming apparent that this should have been done a while ago.
I see this as a move that would enable the Phillies to trade Young to a possible contender who could either use Young as a pinch hitter or even as a DH should he be moved to an American League team.
Whatever the case may be, Delmon Young won't be playing here anymore. It's a shame, I heard he really liked cheesesteaks.
