Phillies destroy radio station for asking negative question about Phillie Phanatic

January can often be one of the slowest times in the sports year, particularly if you cover sports in a town where the NFL team didn't make the playoffs and the NBA team is in the process (pun intended) of what will likely turn out to be a half decade rebuilding plan. In Philadelphia, topics can get especially dry on sports radio around this time of the year, especially when the Phillies are still at least another year away from competing and haven't had a winning record since 2011.

One of the major flaws of daily sports radio is that even when there's nothing to talk about, there's still an entire day's worth of time to fill, which led 97.5 The Fanatic producer Jason Myrtetus to suggesting this side topic:

Had the question pertained to whether anyone was sick of Philadelphia always being tied to Rocky Balboa, perhaps the results of the poll would have been different. But given that the Phanatic is widely considered to be the best mascot in sports, 88 percent of the over 4,000 voters said that they were not sick of the beloved mascot.

The formerly maligned social media team with the Phillies didn't miss their chance to capitalize on what was a fairly stupid question, responding to the tweet with directions on how to delete your account:

To their credit, 97.5's social media team gave the Phillies props for their clever response:

Incredibly, the Phanatic poll wasn't the worst local radio poll today:
