Phillies draft shortstop Cole Stobbe in third round of MLB draft

In the first night of the MLB draft, the Phillies selected outfielder Mickey Moniak with the first pick in the first round.  With the first pick in the second round, the Phillies selected pitcher Kevin Gowdy.  Both were high school players.  When the draft resumed Friday afternoon, the Phillies had the first pick once again.

With the first pick in the third round of the draft, the Phillies selected shortstop Cole Stobbe.  Stobbe hails from Millard West High School in Omaha, Nebraska.  Stobbe is a player who was tagged as being picked in the first or second rounds of the draft, but slipped to the third.

A Nebraska newscast recently profiled Stobbe:

The MLB.com report on Stobbe describes him as, "a quick, compact right-handed stroke and laces line drives to all fields".   Stobbe is a candidate to change positions for the Phillies, possibly to second base or third base.    Stobbe represented Team USA in the 18-and-under World Cup in Japan.
