Phillies drop 94th game of season as Braves complete series sweep

Final: Braves 2, Phillies 1

WP: Peter Moylan (1-0, 4.00 ERA) LP: Luis Garcia (3-6, 3.82 ERA)

Atlanta, GA – The Philadelphia Phillies (56-94) have been defeated by the Atlanta Braves (60-90) 2-1 for the third consecutive game, thus resulting in being swept for the 13th time of the season.

A pitchers' duel between the Phillies' Aaron Nola and the Braves' Julio Teheran limited runs for both sides in Sunday afternoon's series finale matinee.

Nola tossed seven innings of one-run baseball, while Teheran was two outs shy of a complete game shutout before being pulled after throwing 106 pitches, 73 for strikes.

Following a leadoff double in the bottom of the first by right fielder Michael Bourn, rookie third baseman Hector Olivera singled to right field, putting runners on the corners with nobody out.

Making his 385th career plate appearance against Phillies' pitching, first baseman Freddie Freeman laced a RBI-single to center field, giving the Braves an early, 1-0 lead.

The Phillies' first baserunner of the afternoon did not come until the top of the seventh inning, when second baseman Freddy Galvis hit a leadoff double to end Teheran's perfect game bid.

Shortstop Andres Blanco walked to begin the eighth inning, and first baseman Darin Ruf followed with a bloop single to left center field for the second and third Phillies to reach.

A baserunning blunder by Blanco on second caused him to be doubled-off as catcher Cameron Rupp unsuccessfully tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt.

Third baseman Cody Asche singled to put two runners back on base, however pinch hitter Darnell Sweeney struck out to end the Phillies' first significant scoring threat of the game.

Teheran came out in the ninth to try to secure his third career shutout. Galvis grounded out to begin the frame, however center fielder Aaron Altherr and left fielder Brian Bogusevic hit back-to-back singles to merit his removal from the game by Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Facing reliever right hander Peter Moylan, Blanco came up clutch by hitting a game-tying single to right field to score Altherr.

The Braves answered back the next half-inning, however, to secure the series sweep over the Phillies.

Catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who entered the game in the top of the ninth for the injured Christian Bethancourt, hit a walk-off RBI single to center field in opposition of Luis Garcia.

Over 29.1 innings against the Phillies this season, Teheran is now 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA.

The Phillies were 1-5 with runners in scoring position this afternoon, leaving five on base.
