PHILADELPHIA — In their first game back from the All-Star break, the Philadelphia Phillies (42-49) fell to veteran RHP Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets (48-41) Friday evening at Citizens Bank Park.

The only run produced for either side heading to the sixth inning was a third inning solo home run by center fielder Juan Lagares, his third of the season. At this point, Phillies RHP Jeremy Hellickson had thrown five frames, allowing just one run on four hits, zero walks and five strikeouts. Things started to unravel for Hellickson, however, as back-to-back singles by shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and right fielder Curtis Granderson set up a three-run blast to left by second baseman Neil Walker.

The Phillies responded back in the next half-inning for their first and only runs of the series opener contest. After center fielder Odubel Herrera reached safely at first on a one-out throwing error by first baseman James Loney, right fielder Peter Bourjos tripled Herrera home, followed by a RBI ground out to second by third baseman Maikel Franco to score Bourjos. Following a two-out single and walk by first baseman Tommy Joseph and catcher Cameron Rupp, respectively, left fielder Cody Asche hit a RBI single to left, scoring Joseph from second.

Colon would be pulled in favor of right-handed reliever Hansel Robles, who recorded the final out in the sixth by getting shortstop Freddy Galvis to pop out to short.

The Mets added an insurance run in the seventh with a RBI ground out by third baseman Jose Reyes, giving them a 5-3 lead. The added run would not make a difference, however, as nine of the final 10 Phillies batters over the remaining three innings would not reach base, resulting in manager Pete Mackanin's squad to drop their 49th game of the season and lower their season home record to 21-24.

The Phillies will look to rebound Saturday evening as right-handers Logan Verrett (3-6, 4.34 ERA) and Jerad Eickhoff (6-10, 3.80 ERA) face off. (Time: 7:05 p.m.; TV: NBC10; Radio: SportsRadio 94 WIP).
