I want to be fair for a second- things are on the upswing in DC. Instead of 10,000 fans a night, they are getting up around 30,000 most nights now as they head towards their first playoff berth ever. I could be mean and say the Nats are just getting more Congressmen and lobbyists to actually take the tickets, but that'd be an exaggerated case, and kind of mean. That's just helping.
Crossing Broad reports that the Nats broadcasting crew is talking stupid:
Bob Carpenter: And this all goes back to the ignorant people – and it doesn’t take many, it’s not all Philly fans obviously – but there were some really AWFUL people who cheered when he left this field with a broken wrist back in May. Inexcusable. Pardon me, that was in D.C., but Philly fans that were in our ballpark were the ones cheering. And we know that not all Philly fans are like that, but I think that really got to Jayson.F.P. Santangelo: They’re not?Carpenter: …Santangelo: I said, they’re not?Carpenter: I don’t think all of them are.Santangelo: Well, there’s one or two that aren’t.Carpenter: I think they’ve got some good fans here.Santangelo: [Laughter]Carpenter: Or somewhere.
Honestly, the Nats can hardly talk about Philly fans. We're getting more fans in our park for meaningless games than they're getting for clinchers. I have no doubt that they'll sell their one or two little playoff games out at home, but that's going to be a crowd of DC lobbyists and wannabe-big-shots, not baseball fans like we get. With the exception of the Football and futbol teams, sports in DC are treated as a fad, something that's cool for a minute, but then kind of goes away. I'll leave Bob Carpenter alone here, since I think he basically got this right, but F.P. Santangelo…. lol….. career stats please:
.245 average, 21 homers, and 162 RBI's… That's over four years.
Have fun in your quiet stadium, with your sort of fans, for your one playoff appearance guys.
