Final: Phillies 6, Pirates 2 ❖ Attendance: 16,112
PHILADELPHIA— Coming off a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night, the Phillies were looking to get back ahead of the Bucs in the series, and have a chance to take a 2 to 1 series lead against their cross-state rivals.
Jake Thompson took the hill for the Phillies, as he was trying to continue his stretch of consistent games, after he started off his career shakily.
The Pirates have been wavering as of late, and were looking for some kind of momentum to propel them for the rest of their season, as their playoff hopes seem to keep fading away.
The Phillies on Wednesday night were elevated by great offensive performances from Freddy Galvis and Tommy Joseph, both of whom showed their power off with two home runs.
As the bats went off for the Phillies, highlighted by a total of fifteen hits on the night, it was enough padding for Jake Thompson to work his innings effectively and comfortably. Thompson pitched to the seventh inning and let the bullpen succeed from there.
The Phillies took the win, and the lead in the series, as they will try to win the final game of the series on Thursday night, as Jerad Eickhoff looks to capture his 11th win of the season.

The Phillies were lucky enough to hit a ball that caused David Freese to commit a fielding error, which scored Tommy Joseph and allowed Aaron Altherr to reach base. The mishap gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Andrew McCutchen got the Pirates' scoring going with a solo shot off of Jake Thompson to bring the deficit to three runs. Philadelphia still led in the top of the fourth, 4-1.
Still in the inning, with one out, Sean Rodriguez hit a sac fly to Roman Quinn to score Gregory Polanco. The Phillies still led, 4-2.
Heading to the bottom of the fourth inning, Maikel Franco hit his 22nd double of the season, and scored Cesar Hernandez in the process, to give the Phillies a 5-2 lead.
