It is hard to believe we are already a little over three weeks into the 2014 regular season already. It felt just like yesterday the Fightins' took their first swings, and threw their pitches, down in Clearwater at Spring Training. 20 games into the season, it is a little over 12% complete already!
This week on Phillies Five, as we did a few weeks past, we will look at some of the positives we recently seen out of the Phillies, and will look at statistics that have helped lead the team to their recent success.
5. Carlos Ruiz
It took Carlos 15 games to get his first runs batted in for the 2014 season, but he surely made up for lost time in the Phillies' convincing 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night.
Batting cleanup, Chooch went 3-4 with two runs scored, four runs batted in, a home run, and a walk. His average climbed from .204 to .245, and his on-base-percentage rose from .328 to .365 after his first offensively productive game of the season.
Ruiz's production continued on, with him tripling last night and scoring one of the three runs en-route to an extra-innings victory over the Dodgers late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

While Lee struggling on Opening Day allowing eight runs, he still somehow ended up with the victory as the Phillies "out-powered" the Rangers' potent lineup, 14-10.
Lee's next start on April 5 ended in seven shutout innings, and the subsequent start thereafter he suffered his first loss of the season in a 2-6 defeat at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.
He rebounded in his next appearance on April 16 at home against the Braves, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run. His performance proved to not be enough, however, as the Phillies were blanked by Julio Teheran for his first career shutout. This was the first time since 2012 that both starting pitchers in a game went the distance.
His most recent start, April 21 against the Dodgers, was arguably his best of the season so far. He threw eight shutout innings, striking out ten Dodgers to earn his third victory of the season.
Cliff has 13 career games with double-digit strikeouts and no walks, as tweeted by @BRefPlayIndex. This is fifth best all-time in MLB history, behind Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, and former Phillies Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez.

Utley has 27 hits in 69 total at-bats with three home runs, 12 runs batted in and five walks. Nine of his 17 games played were multi-hit games, three of them being three-hit performances.
One pace for 27 home runs and 99 runs batted in, it would be Utley's best season since 2009 where he had 31 home runs and 93 runs batted in.

On Sunday Howard surely put on a show as fans were eating their Easter dinners. Homering to left-center field, tripling nearly in the same direction as the home run, and singling twice, Howard was a double shy of being the first Phillie to hit for the cycle since David Bell in 2004 against the San Diego Padres. His average rose from .217 prior to that game to .262.
A healthy, productive Ryan Howard will do wonders for the Phillies lineup, even if he isn't quite the home run-hitting powerhouse we saw him as during his MVP season in 2006.
Currently, Howard has five home runs and 13 runs batted in this season, and is on pace for 43 home runs and 132 runs batted in. If that season comes to fruition, it would be his best season since the 2009 World Series run where he had 45 home runs and 141 runs batted in.
