Phillies force extras, but Brewers prevail in the 11th to complete sweep

The Phillies fought back from several deficits and finally tied the game in the seventh on a Freddy Galvis RBI-single to send the game to extra innings. Unfortunately, Brewers first baseman Adam Lind drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th, givingMilwaukee the win and the sweep of the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. At 27-54 on the season, the Phillies are off to their worst start since 1997. Despite the loss, the Phillies got three-hit efforts from Odubel Herrera, Cody Asche, Freddy Galvis and Cesar Hernandez. Meanwhile, Chad Billingsley looked shaky in his return from the disabled list and Maikel Franco went 0-for-5.

The Brewers jumped on Chad Billingsley early in his first start off of the disabled list. Gerardo Parra drew a lead off walk and then Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun and Adam Lind all hit singles. Braun plated Parra and Lind drove in Lucroy to make it 2-0. Aramis Ramirez followed with a sacrifice fly two batters later to give Milwaukee an early 3-0 lead.

In the second, Billingsley issued another lead off walk, this time to Scooter Gennett. Matt Garza bunted Gennett over to second and Garardo Parra smacked an RBI double to right, scoring Gennett to make it a four run lead.

The Phillies cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame. Domonic Brown hit a lead off single and Cody Asche hit a two-run home run to right center field to make it a 4-2 game.

The Brewers tacked on another run in the third, courtesy of a Scooter Gennett RBI-single, extending the lead back to three, 5-2.

In the fourth, the Phillies got three one-out singles from Cody Asche, Freddy Galvis and Cameron Rupp. After Chad Billingsley struck out looking, Odubel Herrera slapped a two-run single to center, cutting the Milwaukee lead to one, 5-4.

In the fifth, Adam Lind reached on a Ryan Howard fielding error to start things. Billingsley walked Carlos Gomez before Aramis Ramirez grounded out, moving the runners over. Jean Segura laced a two-run single to right, scoring two more runs for Milwaukee, putting the lead back at three, 7-4.

The Phillies evened things up in the seventh. Cesar Hernandez led off with a single, his third hit of the night. Two hitters later, Ryan Howard lifted an RBI-double off the wall in left center to drive in Hernandez and cut the lead to 7-5. Pinch-hitter Ben Revere followed with a single to plate Howard from second and bring the Phillies to within one. After fouling off four straight pitches, Freddy Galvis hit a single through the hole at short, scoring Revere to tie the game at 7-7.

Cody Asche hit a one-out single in the ninth and Freddy Galvis walked to setup a potential ninth inning walk-off, but Cameron Rupp popped out and Jeff Francoeur lined out to second, sending the game to extra innings.

Jonathan Lucroy hit a lead-off double in the 11th and moved to third on a Ryan Braun groundout. Adam Lind knocked a single to center, plating Lucroy and giving the Brewers an 8-7 lead.

The Phillies went down 1-2-3 in the 11th and left 11 runners on base.
