Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is “fully supportive” of manager Ryne Sandberg

The Phillies hit a  new low at the major league level last night in the 19-3 humiliating loss to the Baltimore Orioles.   Some, including Kevin Cooney of the Bucks County Courier Times, called for immediate changes to the organization.  However, as far as the team's general manager is concerned, the manager is fine.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reported:

Of course, that is only as far as Amaro is concerned.

The Phillies, of course, are rumored to be very interested in long-time MLB executive Andy MacPhail.  Should the Phillies go to a presidential change now rather than at season's end, no one is safe: Amaro, Sandberg, or anyone else that MacPhail deems to be in the way of the future.

In the interim, Pat Gillick is really in charge, not Amaro.  How long Gillick remains at the helm remains to be seen.  MacPhail would be a good choice, and he would be better sooner than later.  Phillies fans want immediate change.  Unfortunately, they probably will not get it.
